About Us

We’re building
what they didn’t.

Swordfish Research Group exists because the standard health system left a hole the size of a person in the middle of every appointment. We’re here to fill it.

The honest part

We’re a little tired of the lying.

For decades, we’ve been told to eat the seed oils, fear the saturated fat, swap the eggs for cereal, replace the butter with margarine, and trust that someone, somewhere, ran the numbers. They didn’t. Or they did and the numbers said something different. Either way, the advice was wrong, the chronic disease curves went straight up, and the people who got sick were told they didn’t try hard enough.

The same thing happened with labs. “Your numbers are in range.” Across most of medicine, that’s where the conversation ends — even when “in range” means “in range for a population that’s sicker every year.” You walk out with no plan, no context, no idea what the values mean, and a vague unease that something is off but no one can name it.

We don’t think most doctors are bad. We think the system they’re forced to work inside doesn’t give them the time, the incentives, or the tools to do what you actually need.

The mission

A regenerative health movement.

Regenerative is a deliberate word. Not optimization. Not biohacking. Not chasing every supplement that goes viral. Regenerative health means returning to the patterns and foods our ancestors thrived on for thousands of years — and using modern science to understand why those patterns worked, and where they still apply today.

We believe most chronic disease in the modern world traces back to a small set of root causes: ultra-processed food, chronic insulin elevation, nutrient-poor diets, sedentary lives, broken sleep, and disconnection from the rhythms — sun, movement, real food, real community — that our biology was shaped by. Drugs can manage symptoms. Food, movement, sleep, and sunlight reverse the root.

Our work is the bridge: take the labs your doctor ordered, decode what they actually mean in plain English, and translate them into a protocol built around the foods, behaviors, and (when needed) targeted supplements that move the underlying patterns. Not 47 different things to track. Just the things that matter, in the right order.

What we stand for

Five principles. Every report. Every page.

01

Food first. Always.

Whole foods have more bioavailable nutrients than 90% of supplements, and the “side effects” are usually feeling better. Real beef, real eggs, real liver, real fish, real fruit. Supplements come in only where food can’t reach.

02

Ancestral framing. Modern science.

Our ancestors didn’t have peer review, but they had hundreds of generations of selection pressure. When the science of the last 30 years agrees with what humans ate for the last 30,000 years, we listen. When it disagrees, we get more curious, not less.

03

Root cause over symptom chasing.

A flagged LDL, a low free T, a creeping A1c — these often trace back to the same upstream issue. We don’t list problems. We connect them. Fix the root, the downstream markers follow.

04

Plain English, always.

If we can’t explain why something matters in a sentence a smart 15-year-old would get, we don’t put it in the report. Medical jargon is how systems hide from accountability. We don’t do it.

05

Your doctor, not us, makes the call.

Every report ends with a printable page of questions to take to your physician. We’re your unbiased second opinion, not a replacement for medical care. The relationship we want with your doctor isn’t adversarial — it’s additive.

Founder

Started by Jay Martinez.

Swordfish Research Group was founded by Jay Martinez out of frustration with the standard model of health: ten-minute appointments, in-range numbers, no plan. The first version of the product was built to answer the question Jay kept hearing from friends and family after they got blood work back — “what do all these numbers actually mean?”

The work draws on a wide reading of functional medicine, ancestral nutrition literature, and modern endocrinology and metabolic research. We’re not pretending to be physicians, and the product makes that explicit on every page. What we’re trying to be is the trusted older brother who reads the research for fun, decodes it into plain English, and hands you something useful you can actually act on.

If this resonates — if you’ve felt the same gap, sat in the same appointment, walked out with the same vague unease — you’re who we built this for.

Take back control of your numbers.

Upload your lab PDF. We’ll decode every marker in plain English, connect the patterns, and hand you a 30+ page protocol built around food, ancestral wisdom, and modern research.
